All dresses are made-to-order to sizes UK2 to UK36. They are not custom made to your measurements and almost always require some alterations to fit perfectly. We suggest you use the size chart, located in our ‘shop’ area, to find a size that most closely matches your measurements, even if the size recommended is not the size you may wear in another brand. When between sizes, always order the larger size, as a dress can easily be altered down, but rarely altered up. Hera Bridal is not responsible for inaccurate size ordering, or an incorrect size due to a customers change in size during dress production. Please email us if you have any concern about what size to order. Professional measurements are recommended to avoid error.

We are unable to send color swatches so please check our color palette at Hera Bridal to see accurate depictions of each color. Some colors are only available in stores and are denoted as such. Colors are accurate as depicted on screen or when we take pictures of it and sending it to your mobile, but variations may occur when you print them, so please use the computer screen/ mobile screen as the most accurate guidance.

Wedding gown couture (13)

How do Hera ready-to-wear wedding dresses differ from coutured dresses?

Hera ready-to-wear (pret-a-porter) wedding dresses are of the same high quality as a couture gown, but are readily available off the shelves at our bridal store in Ponsonby. They are not coutured (custom made) specifically to fit you. By producing them in standard sizes (UK2 to UK30), we can offer them to you at more competitive prices.

What is a couture wedding gown?

A couture wedding gown is a wedding gown that has been customised to fit you, your wedding theme and your own personal style. Any part of the gown can be customised, including its colour, fabric, embellishments, silhouette, etc. Hera Bridal can create a couture gown for you based on one of our existing designs or one of your own.

How much do made-to-measure or couture Hera wedding gowns cost?

Hera Bridal wedding gowns ranges from $1,800 to $8,000.  However, there are existing styles already developed which are lower in price (our ready-to-wear Collection).  On average these styles ranges from $1,600 to $3,900.  More elaborate, custom made gowns with additional or all over embellishment and exclusively designed fabrics, silks and French lace have been known to start from $3,900 and go up to $10,000.  It is useful to advise us of your budget in your initial meetings, so that we can guide you appropriately in design, fabric and embellishment selection.

How much time do I need to have a dress made?

Creating a beautiful individual piece is different from buying off the rack.  It is a process that requires time and patience.  Depending on the design, a toile or calico (work in progress prototype) might be made to ensure the fit is perfect before proceeding with the fabric of your choice.

At least four months are required for made-to-measure or couture original wedding gowns, particularly if you would like extensive embellishments or unique fabrication.  On average at least two to five fittings are necessary for a new design idea or complicated fit.

Hera Bridal cannot ensure availability to create your design if sufficient time is not allowed.  Likewise, if your decision making process becomes drawn out and the business reaches capacity during this time, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accept your business.  Your deposit and decision ensures priority of your timing.

On occasions, we can produce a design in a tighter timeline. This will incur a 20% urgency fee on the total cost of the gown.  This fee will be used towards employing additional wedding ateliers to come on board.  If you are on a tight schedule, it is also important that you are readily available for fittings.

Can I browse designs before I commit to a designer for my dress?

Yes. Hera Bridal is open from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 6pm. While scheduled appointments ensure priority service, browsers are welcome and can secure an appointment later if the styles inspire further interest. We prefer if you let us know you are coming to browse, as it gets very busy and that way, we can make sure clients like yourself gets the best service and attention.

If you are serious about our collections, you are welcome to book a 60 minutes one on one consultation with our team @ Hera for $50. This ensure you will get the best use of your time in finding your dream wedding gown, bridesmaid dresses and any dresses for your special occasion.

You can use the contact form to book an appointment.

Do you take after hours appointments?

If necessary, appointments are available on Thursdays from 6pm to 7pm.
These appointments need be made two weeks in advance. The cost is $70 for one hour.
Sundays are not available.

Should I do anything to prepare for my appointment?

Please view our collections online and prepare for your appointment by selecting and printing images or noting down the style names of the dresses that capture your interest. It is also suggested that clients collect inspirations or references from other sources such as wedding and fashion magazines, think about the assets you wish to highlight and those you prefer to hide and styles you know or think will suit you. A theme colour, location of your wedding will be an excellent starting point for your design.

Do I need to bring anything to my appointments and fittings?

Undergarments such as your bra and heels should be the first items on your list. You should establish a maximum shoe height that is comfortable for you to wear on the day, so the gown can be tailored to the correct length. Usually a flesh coloured smooth bra is the best as white shadows fine fabrics and lace creates bumps. Having this with you can make a world of difference when you make decisions.

For best results, it is highly recommended clients with plus size bra cups source appropriate foundation garments from specialists through the various stages of creating their piece.

For all sizes, good underwear will give the best results – these needs to be selected prior to creating the gown to ensure the garment is cut around the undergarments, especially for sheath, tight fitting gowns such as mermaid or sheath fine silk silhouettes.

All of our gowns are very well boned and padded, you may wish not to wear a bra if desired however it is best if you make this decision prior to your order as this will affect the size of your bustline measurements when a gown is custom made for you.

May I bring friends and family to the appointments?

We acknowledge that clients will like to bring people they care about and trust to their designs and fittings. However, please consider other clients if you choose to bring your family/bridal party with you as Hera Bridal is a small boutique store and do not have the capacity to house many people with ease. On rare occasions, big groups of people can cause a distraction to a peaceful and beautiful experience for brides and others. Too many people can create confusion and we strongly suggest you choose your companions carefully. Mothers of the bride and mother in laws are of course an exception as they are important, however taste differences may create disagreements.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Generally, in the first appointment we will introduce you to styles and fabrics and the look of our label. Depending on your needs, a 60 minutes appointment is made which gives you an opportunity to try styles you like and identify which styles of gowns and silhouettes suit you. If you are keen to proceed, a further appointment is made to verify your needs or refine your ideas. If you know exactly what you like and the styles of our label suits you, then an order can be placed with 80% deposit. Your deposit ensures we can accommodate your creation in our schedule in the event we reach capacity.

What if I run late or need to reschedule an appointment?

A timely arrival ensures you receive adequate time to work with the design ideas and style fittings. It is important that you are on time to ensure we can give you the full time allotted to you.
In the case you are late we may not be able to see you that day.
It is appreciated if you let us know if you are unable to attend an appointment or fitting, by calling us on 09 369 1988.

Once I have made my selection and the piece is designed, what are the next steps?

We can secure your job by processing an 80% deposit. Your deposit ensures we can accommodate your creation in our schedule in the event we reach capacity and a deposit will ensure the guaranteed estimated time of completion in our sales and purchase or couture agreement between yourself and Hera Bridal.

What payment methods do you take?

We take EFTPOS, Visa, internet banking, direct deposits or cash.
